Description
Lora Smothers, though not born and raised in Athens, felt compelled to do something about the Black education crisis in the community. Her own experiences in school, college, and graduate school made it clear to her that Black education was becoming increasingly vulnerable. After completing her education and attempting to make a difference in Athens education the traditional way, Smothers founded Joy Village School to center the education and development of Black youth. In this interview, she discusses the work she has done in Athens and Joy Village School.
