Shannondore “Shane” Sims was born and raised in Athens, Georgia, in a two-parent household until the age of 12. After this turning point he experienced drug and alcohol addiction, social isolation and extreme poverty, and at age 18 he was sent to prison. In this interview Sims shares his life story, explaining how he grew through his struggles and how he turned his life around. Sims shares about the businesses he started in Athens that is dedicated to supporting all people in their journeys to recovery or stability. He conveys positive, hopeful attitudes through this reflection on his lived experiences, both difficult and joyous.
