Description
Joe Lewis Marshall was born in Washington, Georgia in 1937 and moved to Athens as a child. He attended East Athens Elementary School and Athens High and Industrial before dropping out to work full-time. He worked briefly at the NuGrape/Budwine bottling plant before getting a job with Pepsi; a job which he held for 50 years until retiring in 2002. In this interview he discusses life under Jim Crow and the ways in which he experienced racism, sex and relationships, family, the future of African American equality, and life in Athens.
