Wilbert Pope was born in 1957 and spent his youth in Augusta and Lincolnton, Georgia. He attended Lucy C. Laney High School, where he was a part of the band, and afterwards attended the University of Georgia, graduating with a degree in Biological Science. He then took on a job at UPS and focused on providing for his family. Pope is a long-time member of Campus View Church of Christ, and was married there in 1983. In this interview, Pope offers a look into integration and its effects in Lincolnton and Augusta, and the social climate and Black experience at the University of Georgia, as well as in Athens as a whole.
