Gloria Little was born in Athens, Georgia in 1932, and grew up on John Street in East Athens. In her youth, she attended historic Athens Black schools like East Athens Elementary, Reese Street School, and Athens High and Industrial before enrolling in college in 1949. She attended Georgia State University, now known as Savannah State University, and received a degree in elementary education. During her time there she married and started a family that grew to six children after her graduation. After her sixth child, she dove into her teaching career in Athens at West Broad Street School and East Athens Elementary, before integration caused her to move to Barrow Elementary School, where she taught for twenty years. In her interview, Little details her education and career and emphasizes the value of education and how it has changed over time in Athens.
