Herman E. Talmadge interviewed by Hal Henderson. Talmadge served as governor of Georgia from 1947 to 1955 and as United States Senator from 1957 to 1981. Topics include the beginnings of his friendship with Ernest Vandiver, Vandiver’s involvement with the Talmadge camp in Georgia politics, the Sibley Commission, Vandiver as governor and his political philosophy, the controversy of why Vandiver was not appointed to replace Senator Russell after his death, and Vandiver’s failed 1972 run for the U.S. Senate.
