Dr. James Washington, Jr. was born in 1950 in Perry, Florida, and was raised there throughout his early education. This first part of his interview provides a look into segregated Florida and his lived experience of Jim Crow and racism in the South. It also offers a look into his personal life during his youth, as he talks about his friends, the impact his educators had on him, and what it was like to live a rural life. The interview also covers Washington’s views on integration and the media, as well as his opinions on modern issues within the church.
