Tershant Rhodes Smith was born in Greene County in 1974. She graduated from Greene-Taliaferro High School in 1993 before enlisting in the United States Army. After becoming pregnant with her daughter she decided to leave the army to begin a more stable career in Athens. Since then she has opened two personal care homes and served as the project director of the First Step Homeless Encampment. In this interview she discusses her education and upbringing in Greene County, her career as an entrepreneur, and her involvement with First Step.
